Dezincification in cast and heat-treated alpha-beta brass samples

چکیده
Abstract Two α-β brass alloys with varying Zn contents have been studied. The samples received for examination were heat-treated at 500 °C in order to conduct dezincification studies according EN ISO 6509-1 and measure the depth of from metallographic sections. According phase diagram, α-phase content should increase as a result heat-treatment °C. This phenomenon, however, is difficult observe sections which prepared heattreated samples. When analyzing dezincification, it was found that reduced occurred plausible since β attacked by preferential corrosion. Not only uniform layer observed alloy higher content, but also onset plug dezincification. associated original microstructure characterized coarse primary grain size. In this alloy, clearly larger areas containing alpha will impede process

Copper Pitting and Brass Dezincification: Chemical and Physical Effects
OBJECTIVES: The key hypothesis of this project was that both chemical and physical factors associated with real plumbing systems may influence copper pitting and brass dezincification corrosion, and thus the project was aimed at better understanding these factors. In addition to a comprehensive review of the literature on brass dezincification in potable water systems, experimental work was und...
متن کاملA Note on the Dezincification of Brass and the Inhibiting Effect of Elemental Additions
The dezincification of brasses has been the subject of substantial conjecture and investigation over the past century and the technical press is littered with papers on the problem. Very broadly the technical literature can be subdivided into five main groups as follows: (a) Observations of dezincification phenomena including mechanically induced dezincification and in-service experience in var...
متن کاملSOLIDIFICATION MODELING AND DENDRITE STRUCTURE ANALYSIS IN A HORIZONTAL CONTINUOUSLY CAST BRASS BILLET
Abstract: The horizontal continuous casting process has received a significant attention for near net shape casting of non ferrous metals and alloys. Numerical Simulation has been widely used for process design and optimization of continuous casting process. In the present study, a 3-dimensional heat flow model was developed to simulate the heat transfer and solidification in a horizontal b...
متن کاملAlpha radioactivity in Indian cement samples
ABSTRACT Background: The essential constituents of cements like lime, silica and alumina are derived from earth’s crust in which radioactive elements like uranium, thorium etc are also present in varying amounts almost everywhere. These two elements are considered as the parent elements of uranium and thorium radioactive decay series in which radon and thoron are produced respectively as decay...
متن کاملStudy of microstructure and tensile properties of infrared-heat-treated cast-forged 6082 aluminum alloy
In this study, a cast rod is used as the material for the forging process (without extrusion). The cast forging process is used to ameliorate the coarse grains that form in the follow-up heating process of extrusion-forged materials. Infrared (IR) heating is also used for comparison with conventional heating processes. Experimental results show that the direct forging process (without extrusion...
